It doesn’t matter where you are in the country, you can access a staff meeting from autism act. This service will be available from September and I am very excited about it! And there’s not much to thank Covid 19 for let’s face it, but it has widened the autism act audience and for that, I am very grateful.
My M Ed dissertation taught me about the lack of autism training and how teachers continue to feel unprepared to teach SEN (including autism) in their mainstream classes. The latter issue was first recognised back in 1978 in the Warnock Report and I have to wonder ‘what has changed in 42 years?’ The 16,500 words I wrote and the studies I read underpin the ethos of autism act and I stand by the importance of training and the impact it can have.
If you are local to autism act (Essex or 1 hour journey away) you can access all training modules face to face. However, I have realised there are areas of the country who have not had the same access to training that Essex has had until January 2020 and autism act can provide this. Many areas of the UK do not have access to autism advice and training which comes from a ‘mainstream’ perspective. As a former mainstream primary teacher and SENCO, I feel in tune with what people need and want and autism act workshops can provide that.
autism act prides itself on easy to understand concepts to help delegates raise their knowledge and build their confidence; ultimately feeling empowered to try a new strategy or put something you have heard into action. All workshops deliver theory to raise your knowledge, followed by the sharing of suggested strategies for you to try.

autism act recommendation …..
If you have had little autism training at your school or education setting, autism awareness training is recommended as a first step. This sets a baseline of knowledge for all staff. Following this up with a 1:1 consultation via zoom to discuss the needs of your school and help plan autism provision, is also recommended.
All workshops are unique to autism act, written by me using my knowledge and experience, delivered in an approachable and open manner.
