January 2020 is nearly over and this means so is the first month running my own business. While many of you may have your minds on Brexit today, as always my mind is on autism!
I have had plenty of time along the way to reflect on what I am doing and this has allowed autism act to evolve into something more than just an idea that I hoped might work. I can’t say yet if this is going to be sustainable long term but I certainly can not complain about the start to the business. It has been quite the whirlwind in many respects but also I have needed to take a steady outlook and a lot of self belief, possibly more than I have had to summon before.
One thing is certain and that is the need for those supporting autistic youngsters to feel supported themselves, whether that someone is working directly with a child in school, on the periphery of supporting in school, as a family member, or just coming into contact with autistic people through their work. We don’t always know what to do or how to approach a situation unless we are helped along the way – that is where autism act is providing it’s service.
I have had a variety of enquiries and some of them have not come from expected sources, which has added a different dimension to what I am offering and how I can offer it.
I have delivered 2 days commissioned by Rochford Extended Services, which has included working with SENCOs, parents and support staff. I have delivered consultations in 2 schools and this has involved working with numerous staff across different primary age groups.
I suppose most of time has been spent organising, planning, writing material, making resources, following up on the 12 enquiries that have come in through the website. And I am excited for the work, visits, consultations, training and events booked in for February and March.
The Facebook page has also been very active with over 400 followers but I haven’t really got to grips with twitter!
Of course, the website has been a major piece of work and I think it looks amazing (yes, I am completely biased!). If you have an idea for a blog you would like me to write, please contact me and let me know, I’d be happy to host a blog written by you or write one at your request.
Have a great weekend everyone!
